Part of the responsibility of the political-religious leaders is to ensure that festivals such as the Carnival proceed according to the tradition.

In the last few years the number of 'Negritos' and 'Mujercitas', two of the traditional Carnival characters has been scarce, but this year Neemías, Andrés and their friends have done their part to revive the tradition.

Meet them and the political-religious leaders, 'Los principales', on the day after a successful Carnival and hear them explain what the tradition is all about.

NB: The interview takes place on the last day of the Carnival, which more or less equals the last day of any other large festival. The interviewees therefore show signs of too little sleep – and several days of partying with Pox, the local liquor which is a traditional part of most celebrations in the Highlands.
